She is an ambassador for Down's Syndrome Scotland and Mencap, and a patron of the Ann Craft Trust.
Her performance in the 2003 British film AfterLife, brought her a BAFTA Scotland award for best first time performance and Best Actress in the Bratislava International Film Festival, 2004.[2] A Channel 4 review said:
Debut actress Paula Sage holds her own as the feisty Roberta opposite screen veteran Lindsay Duncan, and talented younger actors like Kevin McKidd and Shirley Henderson. If anything holds back Sage's acting career, it will be the shortage of roles available to actors with Down's Syndrome.
Afterlife also won the Audience Award at the 2005 Edinburgh Film Festival. It also won Sage a role as Donna McCabe in BBC Scotland's River City soap.
